Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I recently became allergic to sulfa antibiotics. I also switched BP meds from lisinipril (due to a nagging cough) to Losartin. Three months later, I had a case of hives but thought it was from a Z-pak med i had taken ten days prior. Now three weeks later, I just had another case of hives tonight. Could the hives be an allergic reaction to the Losartin? Does Losartin have a sulfa component to it?
Sulfonamides may cause: dizziness, headache, lethargy, diarrhea, anorexia, nausea, vomiting, and. serious skin rashes. The most common manifestations of a hypersensitivity reaction to sulfa drugs are rash and hives. However, there are several life-threatening manifestations of hypersensitivity to sulfa drugs.
