Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I used to take Olmetec to help control high blood pressure. I also have a tendency to have a high level of uric acid. I read that It is better to use Losartan instead of Olmetec in my current condition. So I have asked my doctor to switch to Losartan. Any opinion on this? YYYY@YYYY
Every single drug has its own side effect. Olmetec contains telmisartan only, not in combination with other drugs such as diuretics.
In fact, this combination (water pills) could precipitate gout attack (increase uric acid more than normal) in some patient.
As you can see, when combined with a diuretic can cause such problems not only Olmetec (telmisartan) but every single ARB (angiotensin receptor blockers) inhibitors including losartan.
You can discuss it with your caring doctor too.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
