Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was told by my gynecologist that, even at the age of 48, my labs show that I am post-menopausal (I did several rounds of IUI/IVF treatment, unsuccessfully, to try to become pregnant in my mid-40s). She said that if I EVER experience vaginal bleeding, I should go straight to the doctor. I had some spotting today--Is it possible that Metformin (500mg BID begun about 4 months ago for insulin resistance syndrome) could be causing this spotting?
Female patients initiated on metformin therapy should be aware that any changes to their menstrual cycle following metformin may indicate endometrial disease. Please visit your clinician.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
