Does Metformin Help In Treating High Blood Sugar Levels?

210 2 hours after meal.. I take 1 metfomin 500mg at night just last 3 days since diagnosed a diabetic. Should I wait for some more time to add another pill (which doctor said I might need). Is metformin effect immediate or builds up after few days? Thank you

Hi welcome to the health care magic

You have not mentioned your RBS or PP2BS sugar value according to which dose can be decided

Usually type 2 diabetic Pateint are obese and hence metformin started in such Pateint

You have to do life style changes as well with exercise and less fatty food and less sweats ....

If sugar level after few days not controlled by metformin alone than sulfonylurea group of drug might started for that....

If your blood pressure is also high than antihypertensive medication started...

Latest new drug for diabetes like empagliflozine has shown benefit in reducing cardiovascular risk to much significant Amount... So it can be safely added if physician feels..

Take care

Consult physician or diabetologist for examination with keeping all this in mind

Hope your concern solved
