Does Methylprednisolone Help Treat An Abscessed Tooth?
I recently had dental work and am in pain. My dentist prescribed me methylprednisolone 40 mg.....is this for pain? I am not sure why he is prescribing me a steroid for a dental issue? This is ridiculous........$15.00 to answer my question. Haha.....I should read the fine print. No thank you.
As per your complain Methylprednisolone is helpful in reducing inflammation, therefore it will help in reducing swelling and pain to some level but is not a painkiller so will not provide immediate pain relief..
I would suggest you to consult your dentist who can advise you painkillers like Ibuprofen, Naproxen etc but if pain is severe higher painkillers like Tramadol or Ketorolac can help..
Along with it do warm saline gargles, do cool compresses on cheek and take a soft diet..
Hope this helps..
Thanks and regards.. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
