Does Methylprednisolone Increase The WBC Level?

I just completed a 6 day pack of methylprednisolone. I am wondering if this increases my WBC how long until it goes back to normal? I am 42, 145 pounds and 5ft 5in. The reason I ask is because I have pretty low WBC at 3.1 and am going back in a week to get tested again to see if they have improved. Concerned that the steroids will have made my count higher and it wont be an accurate test as my count has declined over the last 6 months.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advise.

Steroids are having anti-inflammatory effect, so consumption of it does not increases any blood cell counts.

For which condition you are taking corticosteroids?

Increase in wbc count is suggestive of infection somewhere in body.

So have full blood count analysis and physician appointment.

Regards
Dr. Hiren
