Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Yes, I am wondering if the swelling of my feet could be the a side effect of a new pill I started on. I began these symptoms the day after I started taking Nifedipine ER 60 mg. I took them as prescribed: 1 hr. or 2 hrs after eating. I am having problems with HBP and this was another pill to try and get my eveing BP reading down in evenings. Thanks for your help.
Yes, Nifedipine calcium channel blocker which is commonly prescribed to treat high blood pressure can cause peripheral edema (swelling around the ankle and feet), constipation, increased heart beats, palpitations and flushing. I advise you to consult your treating doctor for an alternate effective but a safer medication to control your high blood pressure.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
