Hi Dr. Rynne, I was on a bata blocker for a borderline hypertension until recently. My current doctor changed it to Norvasc. I am having some difficulties with the new drug and I wanted to know more about this drug. The issues that I am having include: -rapid heart beat -elevated HP -headaches I am not sure if I should continue taking this or go back to my previous drug. Any advises? Thank you. Emma
I can understand your concern regarding the safety of the prescribed medication Norvasc. Yes, it may cause palpitations and headaches as its side effects.
Its common side effects include: increased heart beats, palpitations, flushing, headache, edema and constipation.
Based on the history you are advised to consult your treating doctor for an alternate effective drug like a beta blocker or angiotensin receptor blocker which do not cause those side effects.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
