hi can you tell me if stds show up on a regular pap smear? my younger sister just found out she has herpes. Its time for her annual pap and she is scared the doctor will be able to tell. She hasn't told anyone except me and doesn't want to yet until she is ready. I told her I thought if she was having an "outbreak" then the doctor would of course be able to tell, but if not will it show up in the pap results? And any suggestions on websites, support groups, etc that can help her? I feel horrible for her but I don't have any experience with this and don't know how to help! thank you!
Thank you for using healthcaremagic. I can understand your concern. Firstly there are different kinds of herpes viruses. You have not mentioned how your sister found out she has herpes. If she has genital herpes, it will definitely be picked up on a good pap smear. Treatment plans can be made only after confirming the diagnosis through the pap smear. So my advice would be to get the pap smear test done as soon as possible. Herpes is treatable, so you need not worry too much. But do start the treatment early to prevent any complications.
