Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi am benice ,am trying to conceive for a while now, just about to end ovulation and also about to take the drug polygynax for a vaginal infection recommended by a doctor after series test. My question is. Does polygynax stop ovulation and conceiving?
Polygynax contains nystatin, neomycin and polymyxin B. Nystatin is an anti-fungal drug which acts against the fungal infection. It should be used only as topical agent. It is not advisable for blood infections. It does not cause any significant side effect in the unborn babies.
Neomycin is an antibacterial medicine used to treat bacterial infections particularly gram negative type of bacteria. It should not be used in pregnancy, since it can cause damage to the developing fetus. Polymyxin B is an antibiotic medicine used to treat bacterial infections such as E. coli, etc. This drug also has some harmful effect towards unborn babies. It should not be taken orally. Discuss with your Gynecologist about the complications on oral and topical treatment.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pradeepraj, General & Family Physician
