Does Prednisone Cause Weight Gain?

I have been on prednisone for a month now. Started our taking 8 tabs a day for 7 days, than 7 tabs for 7 days, than 6 for 7 days and now I am taking 5 for 7 days. They are 5 mg tablets each, for inflammation of the large intestines. Does it affect your taste? I also have gained about 10 lbs. Help!

hi..
well basically prednisolone belongs to a group of drugs called glucocorticoids. It improves your condition by modifying your immune system.
and yes prednisolone does cause weight gain, that is by increasing your appetite and also water retention. It commonly causes deposition of fat in undesirable places like the face, around the abdomen and upper back.
you can check your weight gain by cutting down on your calories and regular exercise.
hope this answers your question!
