Does Rituximab Cause The Pain In The Arm Where It Was Administered?

Hello Doctor, I had my first injection (Rituximab) for the treatment of B-cell follicular NHL on Fri 24 Jan - into my right arm. I am a fit, active (military) 46 y/o male. My arm is now aching really badly, from the elbow (where I was injected) and out into the bicep and forearm. Is this a side-effect to be expected? Is there anything I can do to ease the pain, aside from icing it which seemed to help last night, and is it likely to ease off? Finally, online literature seems to suggest that the first Rituximab injection be given over several hours - mine was administered in one injection - 30 secs at most - was this a mistake by the nurse or are there different approaches? For completeness, my next treatment will be Bendamustine, this week. I didn't see this one coming! Sincere thanks.

HI
Thank for asking to HCM
I really appreciate your concern, certain parenteral agents need to be given in to the deep intramuscular region where the blood supply is sufficient so the drug could absorbs rapidly, when such agent given at the area where the muscle area is small and the blood supply also limited then the injection would be painful, you can try "Heparin'' containing cream this will reduce the irritation and pain too, take care and have nice day.
