Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
1. Does Septoplasty help reduce my blood pressure? I am 48 years old with high BP and I have nasal issue and ENT doctor has recommended Septoplasty. The nose block is also interferring with my excercises (Treadmill, Elliptical) and sleeping pattern. Luckily, I do not have Sinus or similar nasal mucus issues. In theory, a good flow of Oxygen will help reduce my blood pressure, correct? So, I am hoping to see some benefit out of this. Please let me know your thoughts? 2. I have heard that Septoplasty can be ineffective for some people. Can you please tell me in what cases do Septoplasty not work.
Hello Nasal septum , if deviated on one side & interfere in breathing then doctor advise septoplasty got facilitation of air in air passage . IF deviation is moderate to severe advised septoplasty . This is very natural that oxygen will enter in clear way if deviation corrected , so also easy breathing. In my opinion there in no scientific proof which prove that blood pressure decreases after septoplasty . As regarding reply of 2nd question I mentioned that if nasal septum is deviated moderate to severe degree advised septoplasty and help in breathing . I recommend you consult one more general physician ( before operation ) and get his opinion regarding breathing problem and various causes of difficult breathing. Good luck.
