Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I just had a steroid injection yesterday for a swollen hand. Tonight I noticed a lump on my neck. Wasn t there before. I had this happen the last time I had a steroid inection. The lump is just in a different place. Is this common with steroid injections.
The body drains toxins and some allergens through the lymph system. This is a system that follows the veins are opens into lymph nodes regularly. When an injection is given, there are some allergens or toxins produced by the body.
This is cleared by the lymph nodes and they can swell up.
Along with this, there may be swelling because the steroid reduces the immune action and the nodes start swelling as a result.
Usually, the swelling would be on the same side as the hand where the injection was given. i.e - left neck for left-hand injection.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Vignan Rachabattuni, General & Family Physician
