Does Tramadol Interfere With Spirolactone And Lactulose?

I am a candidate for liver transplant and one of the few pain meds I can take on an as-needed basis is Tramadol. I am looking for side effects and/or interactions with other drugs. Right now I take glyburide, lasix, spironolactone, lactulose, xifaxin, and some vitamins.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi & Welcome to HCM.
I can understand your concern regarding the safety of the prescribed medications.
There is no documented harmful interactions between Tramadol with Spirinolactone or Lactulose. However, Tramadol (an opioid analgesic) should not be taken while suffering from liver problem. Basically, Tramadol is metabolized in the liver, since liver is diseases its metabolism will be reduced leading to increase accumulation of the drug in blood causing toxicity such as delirium or coma with respiratory depression.
Hence, Tramadol is not advisable while suffering from liver disease.
Hope this helps.
A feed back is appreciated.
