Hi, just wondering if Voltarol Gel could affect a D Dimer test. I had pain in my right calf and a d Dimer test was carried out with a resulting reading of 5250 last sat morn. Had an ultrasound scan yesterday and clotting was ruled out thankfully. Had another d Dimer test done and again the results read as 5250. Dr. Questioned my meds again and I explained that I was only on Eltroxion. Was sent for another scan and was diagnosed with a muscle tear on calf. However today I remembered that on Monday I had rubbed Voltarol Gel. Into my elbow (tennis elbow) only once on Monday which I didn t even consider when speaking to doc. Could this affect the d Dimer reading? Thanks, barbara
Voltarol gel does not cause increase in D – dimer level. But muscle tear or traumatic injury to muscle can cause false increase of D – dimer level in blood. As clotting has been ruled out by ultrasound scan, so there is no need to worry. Advice 1. Take rest for few days until muscle tear heals but be ambulatory 2. Avoid strenuous activity 3. Continue Eltroxin as suggested 4. You can keep applying Voltarol gel for Tennis elbow I hope this information will help you. I will be happy if you ask another question Thanks
