Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am scheduled to have a ct scan tomorrow of the abdomen and pelvis. Is there a risk with this scan. I have back spasms if laying to long on my back especially on a hard surface. Approximately how long does this scan take? Do you have to drink a dye before the test? I m very nervous.
Thanks for the query. CT scan is a very simple and safe procedure. It helps in diagnosing various conditions related to internal organs. In some procedure a contrast medium is needed for highlighting certain areas of the body. By and large these materila do not cause any harm. Need for a contrast depends on what areas need to be scanned. Overall it is a simple and short procedure. Thanks.
