Does A Twisted Ankle, Causing Minimal Discomfort While Walking, Need Medical Attention?
I twisted my ankle while descending the stairs at home, fell on my left shoulder and may have torn something in my foot. It's swelling but I can walk with only minimal discomfort. Do I need to see a physician? I've been putting ice on it sometimes, and taking Ibuprophen.
If you can walk on it with only minimal discomfort then the tear may be minimal if one is present.
You should minimize putting any pressure on the ankle however for at least a few days up to a week depending on the speed of recovery. For the first 3 to 4 days, you can continue icing it, if possible , this can be done 2 to 3 times daily for 10 to 15 mins.
The medication should also be continued.
If you do not notice any improvement or there is worsening over the next few days, then you should see your doctor for assessment.
I hope this helps
