Does Brownish Discharge Due To Miscarriage?

Hi I am around 4 weeks pregnant and the last two days I have passed clots but with no blood flow, when I wipe that's where I see the blood discharge. Its more a brownish discharge today, but I havnt suffered much cramping only the day before and yesterday I had cramping. I was given a internal scan yesterday but they cudnt see anything except that the walls were thickened as if ready for pregnancy. I have to wait to have my hcg levels done again but does this sound like a miscarriage is happening? Zola

Hello,
At four weeks, a gestation sac cannot be identified even with a trans-vaginal sonogram. If serum beta-hCG levels have given evidence of pregnancy, it is likely that you could have an abortion. The hormone levels need to be checked again at intervals to see if they are declining or rising. Another sonogram should be done after a week or ten days to see the status of the pelvic organs. Chemical pregnancy abortions do happen at about the time of a natural period, when there is some gross anomaly in the embryo or some hormone imbalance. Hope this helps.
