Does Disc Protrusion Causing Spinal And Neural Foraminal Stenosis Require Surgery?
I have had 3 major back operations my last spondylosis to include portion of the thoracic spine. I have 2 millimeters of retrolisthesis along with surgical resection of the superior facet. Mild disc narrowing at L2-3. Changes to the paraspinous muscles along with fluid collection that may represent seroma. A mild broad based disc protrusion is present at L2-3 causing spinal and neural foraminal stenosis. I am scared does all this mean more surgery for me. I am in unbearable pain every single day and can barley walk.
** 1. neural foramina stenosis is constricting of foramena or open spaces between the vertebrae through which the nerves enter/exit as they pass from the spinal column to other parts of the body.
2. since symptoms are unbearable thus it suggests that there is severe constriction of foramina leading to compression of nerves thereby resulting in tingling, weakness, pain and numbness
3. the most common cause of neural foramina stenosis is aging [unless other concomitant conditions exist], thus apart from exercise,pain/anti inflammatory medication and steroid injections, 'foraminal stenosis surgery' to remove bone or disc tissue is recommended and may consider gentle stretching or restorative yoga
