Hi,I am Dr. Joan F. Tryzelaar (Cardiac Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband, 62 yrs, had an aeortal valve replaced about 1 mo. ago. He likes to drink alcohol when we entertain. When he drinks it is not uncommon for him to have 2-3 doubles of Crown Royal Black. He is on comidin (sp?). I told him that I think he should consider not drinking because the pig valve only has a certain life 10-20 yrs and he needs to treat it carefully to get the most out of its life. I was looking for info that can substantiate my position. Thoughts?
Hello, Unfortunately there is no available data on the effects of alcohol on the biological valves. But drinking a lot will make your husband live less than the valve he has, because other bargains are affected like liver, brain and the heart muscle itself. Regards, Ermal
