Does Fever, Body Rash And Ear Infection Post Dental Procedure Need Medical Attention?

My 4 year old, received her MMR on 01/23/15, she had dental procedures under sedation on Monday, 01/26/15. She woke up with complications after her procedures and needed a nebulizer treatment with epi. On 01/29/15, she developed an ear infection, and is taking augmentin. She s coughing, has a fever of 99.9, complaining of body aches and was sent home due to a rash on her torso, arms, and face. The rash has gotten worse, and she has taken tylenol for the ache and fever. We are wondering if we should head to an emergency room or urgent care.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain the symptoms of developing rash over the torso, arms and face with a recent history of MMR [Measles, Mumps and Rubella] vaccine and also dental treatment that led to complications..
Along with it recently taking antibiotic Augmentin for ear infection..

I would like to explain you that there seem to be allergic reaction that seems most probably due to MMR vaccine, as some toddlers can develop rashes that can start around a week after the vaccination and can last for a few days and resolve on its own..

Secondly it can also be an allergic reaction to Augmentin as antibiotic allergy can also represent as rashes..

You need to consult a Paediatrician and get her evaluated..

A blood test to check for antibiotic allergy as well as reactivity to the MMR vaccine both needs to be checked..

In case if it is due to vaccine then it will resolve gradually, however you can be advised anti histamines like benadryl if there is itching associated with rash and also doing cool compresses will help..

In case if it is due to Augmentin then stoppage of the antibiotic, taking anti allergics and changing the script with different antibiotics can help..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
