Does Green Vomit With Blood And Mucus Require Emergency Attention?
Hi, my name is Donna Hill. My husband has been throwing up today, and now he is throwing up blood and mucus. We are quite a ways from a hospital. He has slept most of the day, but he has had two bouts of throwing up, and the first time was greenish liquid. He has thrown up an amazing amount of liquid. Should I take him to the emergency room?
The greenish liquid he was throwing up is the bile returned to stomach and then thrown up. Perhaps, your husband has not eaten when he vomited and had only stomach and bile liquid left.
If he also thrown up blood, I'd ask :
- the amount of blood - the color (dark, light red) - mixed with mucus/liquid or only blood
If the vomiting episodes were only twice, I'd suggest to wait and see if the vomiting will restart, should send to emergency. Meanwhile, I'd advise: - give him to drink plenty of water - give him otc antiacid - start giving probiotics and o.r.s
He is sleeping because he might be tired due to recent malnutrition and vomiting itself.
