Does Heavy Menstrual Bleeding Need Medical Attention?
Hi Im Megan & Im 28.I haven t had a period in like 4-5 yrs & all of a sudden like 2 days ago I started bleeding but I feel like I m bleeding more then usual cuz I got super tampons & I m filling 1 up like every 3 hrs. I dont know if this is how a period should be or if I should go 2 the hospital.
Yes, since you have heavy bleeding since two days you need to have an urgent medical attention.
Based on the history you seem to be suffering from menorrhagia (heavy bleeding) which is a type of abnormal uterine excessive bleeding which can be caused by hormonal problems, diseases of the uterus like fibroids, endometriosis, or polyps or lack of ovulation (anovulation).
In view of the above you need to consult a gynecologist for further evaluation which may include certain lab tests such as CBC, coagulation profile, hormonal levels, an abdominal ultrasound to ascertain the underlying the cause which can be treated accordingly.
But for immediate control of bleeding you may be prescribed certain medications like Tranexamic acid along with iron supplements.
Hope the advice given above would be useful.
