Does High Protein Consumption After Laband Surgery Alter Pregnancy Test Results?
my daughter had lapband surgery december 2, 2011. she has lost 26 pounds and has not had her period since the surgery. she took a home pregnancy test and it was positive. I'm wondering if the high amounts of protein she has had to consume since surgery may affect a home pregnancy test.
Hi, Thanks for asking. Pregnancy test is done based on hcg antigens and antibody reaction. Even if she consumes high amount of proteins, it will get stored as fat. If not absorbed, excreted in feces. If the protein level is increased in urine, I would think, there could be renal damage.
So based on these, I would home pregnancy test, if positive means possible pregnancy or other lesions which increase hcg hormone level in body. Any further queries, happy to help again.
