Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am overweight and have recently had some high blood pressure readings. A routine ecg has resulted in me being called in but only for a 'routine' appointment. I have been under a lot of stress for a fairly prolonged period and wondered if this might be causing symptoms like this. Trying not to be a worried well
Stress for sure increases blood pressure readings. This is so because when you are stressed up, there are a lot of hormones that are being secreted including epinephrine and norepinephrine which will cause vasoconstriction and increase heart rate thus increase blood pressure.
the other risk factor you have is the overweight. reducing your weight will improve on your blood pressure values greatly.
Stop worrying and being stressed up, reduce weight and regularly control your blood pressure. If persistently above 139/89mmHg, you will need to see a doctor.
Best regards Dr Achuo
