Does Imitrex And Tramadol Have Interaction?

I was taking 100 mg Zoloft but my Psychiatrist changed it to 50 mg when I told her I was prescribed Imitrex 50 mg which I have only taken 1/2 pill since prescribed. Since going to 50 mg Zoloft I have been experiencing serious personality changes like a light switch going on & off. I have serious outbursts & place myself in danger by causing confrontations when I get upset or tired of waiting or if there is noise around me. I also have been waking up 5-6 times a night with severe severe headbanging migraines that are uncontrollable. Help I also was rx d Tramadol (changed from Vicodin) & have concerns about interactions with Zoloft with this pill also. The tramadol is 150 mg. I feel i need to up my Zoloft, but I get afraid to if Imitrex & Tramadol have interactions. I do not take The Imitrex too much when I was on 100 mg Zoloft because I was not experiencing the migraines as much anymore. Any suggestions

Hi & Welcome.
Yes, it can cause harmful interactions.

Based on the history given you seem to have developed harmful drug-drug interactions.

Tramadol if taken along with Imitrex can increase the risk of a serious condition called the serotonin syndrome which is characterized by confusion, hallucination, seizure, extremely high BP, increased heart rate, fever, excessive sweating, blurred vision, muscle stiffness, tremor, incoordination, stomach cramp, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

In severe cases it may result in coma and even death.

Serotonin syndrome can also occur if Zoloft is taken along with Imitrex or with Tramadol.

So in view of the possibility of having the above serious condition you should consult your treating doctor to review the prescription and to prescribe an alternate effective but safe treatment for migraine and depression like Valproic acid or Carbamazepine.

Hope this will help.
