Does Injury To The Throat Cause Throat Infection?

a few days ago i got hit hard in the adams apple (throat in general) during a game of football. within 48 hours i had develpped what my doctor says is a throat infection. I had terrible fever as a result. Is it possible that the injury to my throat during football caused the throat infection?

Hello,

It is quiet possible as with other injuries wheteher a blunt trauma or cuts - lots of dead tissue or an open wound always had a favourble environment for microbial growth.

Adam's apple is made up of thyroid cartilage which is one of the main framework for voice box. Injuty to it may have led to throat inflammation &/or infection. General advise:

1. Abstain form straneous work / play or workouts.

2. Take a good rest esp. voice rest.

3. Avoid spicy and cold foods especially.

4. Gargle throat with simple warm saline water.

Next Step:

1. Thorough clinical examination and laryngoscopy by an ENT specialist

2. Imaging of the neck if suggested.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
