Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Does Intake Of Evista Help In Treating Osteopenia?
I was on Evista for 6 years, Dr. took me off of Evista two years ago. At that time My Dexa report showed Osteopenia. My recent report showed Osteoprosis. Can I start Evista again? I did not have any side effects while on Evista. Dr is now recommending Fosimax, I do not want to take because of the bad side effects.
Since Evista is a relatively new medicine (it was approved by the FDA in 2007 to reduce the risk of hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer in postmenopausal women who had never been diagnosed with the disease), it's not clear yet how long you should take Evista to get the most risk reduction benefits. Most widely accepted trial worldwide is the STAR trial In which, women took Evista for 5 years. Depending on your unique situation, your doctor may recommend that you take Evista for a longer or shorter amount of time. Even EVISTA is not free from side effects most common side effects of Evista are: hot flashes leg cramps swelling flu-like symptoms sleeping problems joint/bone pain sweating dry skin Evista's selective estrogen activation effects can cause some serious side effects, including blood clots and stroke.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
