Does It Require To Have Repeat HIV Test After Negative Result In HIV Antibodies Test?

hello
i had unprotected sex on 20th of January 2013. Months later i started to feel worried that i might get hiv. 20 weeks after the last exposure, i went to a clinic in the usa and i asked for a hiv test. I'm not sure what kind of test was but i guess it was antbodies test. They got blood sample and i received the result in 3 days later as: Negative. . Should i trust this result?

Hi,
Welcome to HCM.

As far as HIV is concerned, whether it is Antibody test or Antigen test, it will be conclusive any time after 12 weeks of the high risk activity.
So your test done after 20 weeks after the exposure is more conclusive. Most of the tests marketed are highly sensitive and specific more than 98%. So your test can be taken as conclusive and you are HIV free. Another negative HIV test with different kit makes it 100 % sure and confirmatory.

Nothing to worry.
