Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Does Metoprolol And Fluoxetine Cause Uneven Heart Beat And Palpitations?
I am worried about taking my metoprolol Xl 25 mg. in the morning and 25 mg. in the evening with fluoxetine 10 mg? The drug interaction checker says it may cause my heart to beat uneven and I have trouble with palpitations. Thank you for your time. Cindy
Fluoxetine is an oral drug that is used primarily for treating depression. metoprolol (belongs to group of drugs called beta blockers) is used in patients with palpitations. You are right and their is drug interaction between these two. fluoxetine may increase the levels and effect of metoprolol and also other beta blockers. I suggest you to take these two medications only under medical supervision. Please inform your treating doctors about these medications. All the best. Regards.
