I had a pregnancy ultrasound the other day. The results say there is a single intrauterine gestational sac And i am 5 weeks pregnant but it also says that a secondary yolk sac was identified although no foetal pole is seen. Does this mean I am pregnant with twins?
Hi, As per your ultrasound report, it appears that you had conceived a twin pregnancy and one of them failed to proceed. It remains to be seen if there is any improvement by another sonogram, preferably trans-vaginal, after a week. As the gestation sac can be seen at 5-6 weeks, definite confirmation can be had only after another review. Measurement of serum beta-hCG titres also helps to decide whether you have multiple pregnancies based on the titres. Hope you find this information helpful. Take care.
