Hi,
Naproxen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (
NSAID). It reduces pain, inflammation, and fever. It works by blocking the production of
prostaglandins, which are chemicals in the body that contribute to inflammation and pain.
Erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) is a test that measures the rate at which red blood cells settle at the bottom of a test tube. ESR is a non-specific indicator of inflammation, and it can be elevated in various conditions, including infections, autoimmune diseases, and cancer. There is no evidence to suggest that Naproxen reduces blood ESR. It is more likely that Naproxen would increase ESR, as it is often prescribed for conditions associated with inflammation.
It is possible that your ESR was slightly elevated due to the strained muscle in your back, rather than a result of Naproxen use. However, you should consult with your healthcare provider for a proper evaluation and interpretation of your
blood test results. They may recommend further testing or treatment if necessary.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
