Does Peripheral Neuropathy Cause Cramps In The Feet?
I am diabetic (type 2). My A1C at my Dr appointment last month was 6.3. I have foot neuropathy in both feet which is causing my feet to stay cold feeling and most recently i am experiencing foot cramps. Can the cramps be related to the neuropathy?
I would like to tell you that peripheral neuropathy can cause muscle cramps in the legs. The most important step to control your neuropathy is controlling your blood sugar levels. Though peripheral neuropathy cannot be cured measures can be taken to control the symptoms and prevent further deterioration. The most common drug used to control symptoms of diabetic neuropathy is pregabalin. Methylcobalamin which is a vitamin also helps in relieving symptoms. To alleviate the pain, you can take over the counter painkiller like Advil or acetaminophen. Capsaicin gel can be applied topically to relieve pain. It is very important to get regular checkup of your foot as there are high chances of developing gangrene in patients of diabetic neuropathy.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
