Does Persistent Dry Cough With Little Phlegm Need Medical Attention?
I have had a dry mostly non productive cough or 16 days. When I am able to get mucus up it s thick and light brown. I am getting a little better everyday but still coughing and no energy. It s hard to breathe at times. Just taking Advil and mucinex. I am 59 yr old healthy male. My wife is goin though the same thing. Should we go see a doctor or just let it run its course.
Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns. This is already a worrisome problem if this lasts for more than 2 weeks and medical attention is required. It may be sign of bacterial pneumonia or exacerbation of chronic bronchitis and it would be good to do lung ventilation tests and throat sample for microbiologic analysis. if you are smoker you need to stop smoking immediately and spend time on fresh air as much as possible. also, you should take expectorans to dissolve mucus so consult your doctor about these medications. Wish you good health. Kindly regards
