Does Removal Of Albizzia Rod From The Femur Bone Cause Breakage?

My daughter had an 11mm Albizzia rod put in her femur for lengthening a leg length descrepincy. Her bone marrow hole was 9mm so femur had to be carved out to fit the rod. She gained the length but it took her bone years to consolidate. Now she needs to get the rod removed as finally her bone is strong. Will her bone break when they try to remove the 11 mm rod from her femur as her bone marrow hole was originally only 9mm

hi,

thank you for providing the brief history of your daughter.

as you mentioned what I can understand is that the surgery was done for increasing the limb length.

Well, not its a much time passes by. since in the past if the rod implant has not provided any infection the bone and the bone marrow will be strong now to get affected.

also the surgery will be a small procedure and easy to take it out. the closure of the hole what you are worried about will also occurs in a week's of time.

also to understand here is to how do we get the 100% outcome score of the surgery for which you can discuss with the surgeon as well. The muscle should be into grade 5 as post surgery due to minimal pain the grade drops by 1 and comes to grade 4. what you can do is to organize the pre and post surgery physical therapy training and focused on the muscle getting operated for the best outcome score. this will help your daughter to have a 100% rehabilitation and full energetic movements in the future.

with the grace of God I wish your daughter a good health.

regards
