Does Rheumatoid Arthritis Cause Painful Swollen, mis Shapen Thumb With Bony Lump?
I have a grossly swollen, misshapen thumb with bony lump and associated achey pain, same with one of my large toes and extremely severe stiffness and pain in lower spine. Could this be rheumatoid arthritis? My 30 year old daughter has Crest syndrome (auto immune condition) and cousin and auntie have R.A, suggesting a family predisposed to R.A.

Hello, Thanks for your query.
It could be due to autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, gout, inflammatory diseases like SLE, bursitis, fibromyalgia, etc. To pinpoint the diagnosis, complete physical examination and investigations like complete blood counts, ESR, RA factor, CRP, serum uric acid, serum creatinine, X-ray and MRI joints from a rheumatologist are needed. You need to consult a rheumatologist for proper treatment.
I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query. Take care
