Does Scar Tissue Show Up As Opacity In Xray?

My 23 year old daughter just had a chest xray which showed an opacity to the left of her breast. They took the xray because she was having chest pains. In the very area where the pain was, they saw an opacity. The opacity is also in the same area where her scar is from her PDA surgery that she had when she was 6 months old. Could they be seeing the scar tissue?

Hello and welcome to HCM,
A thick fibrotic scar can appear as an opacity on X-ray chest.
If the scar is in same region where the surgery was performed, there is possibility that the fibrosis or the scar is responsible for the opacity.
However, it is important to review the X-ray to comment anything on the site and origin of the opacity.
There are other causes of opacity on the X-ray chest.
Fibrosis due to other reason, calcified lymph node. etc can also opacity on the X-ray chest.
I suggest you to consult your radiologist or primary healthcare provider for assessment of the X-ray.
