Hi, I have been instructed by my PCP to wear a holter monitor for 48hrs. Cardiology put it on me today, but didn t give me any instructions on what to avoid or not do or things that I maybe should do. I am a smoker (yes, I know it s bad for me) and I am wondering if the holter monitor results will be effected if I smoke?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Varinder's Response
Hello,
Yes, smoking or alcohol or coffee will alter the results. But if you want to stop these things for once and all then avoid. But if you have no intention to stop these just note on a paper time when you smoked or took coffee. And after test gives that paper to a doctor who will see what effect these had on cardiac rhythm.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Varinder Joshi
