My husband says when he gets up in the morning he has a pain in his back where his left lung could be. after he starts walking around it goes away. this is every morning. He is a pack a day smoker, and feels he has a problem maybe with his left lung. have you heard of this?
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic. I can understand your concern. Left sided chest pain in smoker is mostly due to heart or lung diseases.. Heart diseases like coronary artery disease (CAD) and lung related diseases like bronchitis are common interest smokers and cause left sided chest pain. So better to consult doctor and get done 1. Ecg, 2d echo and stress test to rule out CAD. 2. Chest x ray and PFT (pulmonary function test) for the diagnosis of bronchitis. In any case, he should stop smoking as soon as possible. He may need cardiac supportive drugs, inhaled bronchodilator and inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) on the basis of these reports. Don't worry, you will be alright. Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wishing good health to your husband. Thanks.
