Hello,
The following are few symptoms of systemic lupus erythematosis:
1) Constitutional (eg, fatigue, fever, arthralgia, weight changes)
2) Musculoskeletal (eg, arthralgia, arthropathy, myalgia, frank arthritis,
avascular necrosis)
3) Dermatologic (eg, malar rash, photosensitivity, discoid lupus)
4) Renal (eg, acute or chronic kidney failure, acute nephritic disease.
Diagnostic considerations are as follows:
1) Antiphospholipid antibodies
Anti-cardiolipin antibodies or Anti-β2GP1 antibodies or Lupus anticoagulant
2)Complement proteins, low C3 or low
3) SLE-specific antibodies, anti-dsDNA antibody or anti-Smith antibody
Scoring system is given as per EULAR/ACR classification. The following tests are necessary:
Complete blood count (CBC) with differential
Serum creatinine
Urinalysis with microscopy
C-reactive protein (CRP) or
Erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR)
Complement levels
Liver function tests
Creatine kinase assay
Spot protein/spot creatinine ratio
These battery of investigations along with various antibody tests are considered standard diagnostic regimen in SLE or lupus. SLE often waxes and wanes in affected individuals throughout life, and features of the disease vary greatly among individuals. The disease course is milder and the survival rate higher in persons with isolated skin and musculoskeletal involvement than in those with kidney disease. Please do
consult a rheumatologist for classification of grade of lupus and initiating treatment.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
