Does Stabbing Pain In The Right Shoulder Blade Indicate Acid Reflux?
I was woke up on Monday morning, 4am with strange stabbing pain behind my right shoulder blade. It felt worse with every breathe in and when laying down. It has never gone away and tonight it has moved around to my right side and in the front under my right breast in the rib area. It is cramps and painful when I move around, breathe and lay down. I have acid reflux, but have never experienced this before. Is it acid reflux or something else?
Yes, such type of pain can be due to acid reflux especially if you also have a history of gastritis or IBS/ GERD. You are suggested to take antacids & PPI's for relieve. Increase the fiber content of your diet, stay hydrated & if required take laxatives at bed time.
However, such pain or discomfort can also be due to pinched nerve, muscle/tendon or ligament strain, fibromyalgia, etc. You are suggested to get clinically examined to stay at a safer side. You may have to get blood & imaging tests done to get the cause detected.Get treated at the earliest.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
