Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a long history of spinal problems stemming from botched laminectomies in 1980. . - from T12 to Ileo sacral joint have marked changes, lack of disc space and rotation ( in a nutshell). I am now 74 year old lady ( Retired RN) with an very limited lifestyle. A year ago I noticed I had quite marked difficulty walking when in street shoes rather than my heavy joggers. Now I experience that same difficulty every afternoon when walking in the joggers (which remedied the problem a year ago) My gait changes to feeling I cannot co-ordinate upper body with my legs almost stumbling along whereas a morning walk is considerably more fluent. A few hours after that 1 K. Walk morning walk I tend to shuffle around home with very short steps which is opposite to my natural tendency of moving quickly. My GP does not address these complaints though I do I take painkillers- Targin .Is it possible Stenosis is causing this more recent problem and is requesting an appointment with a neurosurgeon advisable? Your opinion would be greatly appreciated as I feel Rome burns whilst I fiddle around . Sincerely Robyn from Bribie Island. robrids @bigpond.com
Stenosis, which means narrowing, can cause pressure on your spinal cord or the nerves that go from your spinal cord to your muscles. If you have lumbar spinal stenosis, you may have trouble walking distances or find that you need to lean forward to relieve pressure on your lower back.
