Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a slight soreness in my left testicle. I woke up with extreme pain, went to the ER, and got an ultrasound. They said I didn't have torsion, but I did have a cyst. They said that was normal. Anyways, I still have this soreness in my testicle. Could they have read the ultrasound wrong? I need answers!
Hi, Thanks for your query. If a patient with testicular pain comes to my clinic I would first do an ultrasound scan to rule out torsion testes.Torsion testes is a surgical emergency and we need early intervention. As per your description, torsion has been ruled out.Your ultrasound suggest the presence of a cyst which might be an epididymal cyst. These small cyst are usually not dangerous. In my practice I find these cyst accidentally on ultrasound. They don't need treatment unless they cause pain and discomfort. As a first line therapy I would suggest simple analgesics like ibuprofen and a short course of antibiotics like amoxclav for five days.If the cyst becomes larger despite the medical management we refer the patient to a urologist,in that case he might require a minor surgical procedure to remove the cyst. You don't need to worry regarding this. You can use some analgesics like brufen for pain.If your pain persist for long time ,I suggest you to consult a urologist and get a repeat ultrasound done to confirm the diagnosis. He may guide you further accordingly. Hope this information helps.
With regards. Dr.Shinas Hussain
