Does Thyroid Medication Aggravate Osteoporosis While Going Through Menopause?
Yes please , I was diagnosed with Hashimotos several years ago. i have a goiter that has been watched with ultra sound and thankful no changes there. on my most recent visit to my physician, i was told that they were lowering the dose of my thyroid medication (Unithryoid) because i was menopausal and it was suggested that the meds could cause problems with osteoporosis…. I ve never heard this before. Even more confusing is that upon reviewing my latest bloodwork- it was very clearly flagged that my TSH levels were abnormal and well below the normal range. Value of .304 I ve had no success with getting a follow up appointment with my doctor. i feel like the office doesn t follow through with turning calls, As it sits at this moment i am not supposed to be seen until August. I am a little concerned because I m feeling somewhat fatigued , have hair falling out and have not been able to lose weight with much success and I ve been very strict with a Ketogenic diet for about 2 months. I would appreciate any suggestions.

Does Thyroid Medication Aggravate Osteoporosis While Going Through Menopause?
Hello, Yes, it does aggravate osteoporosis because Estrogen and thyroid hormones compete for same receptors and it is better to take supplementation. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards, Dr. Archana
