I have had problems with a hormone imbalance for several years now they have put me on hormone pills but only for a few months out of the year. I now have several fibroids and am having pain in my back and my abdomen and my doctor has scheduled a total hysterectomy for June 4th. Will this make my hormone imbalance even worse after the surgery
Total hysterectomy means that they will remove your ovaries at the time of the surgery. This means that you will become menopausal after the surgery. You did not say how old you are, but you should be prepared to have all the symptoms of a regular menopause, and actually they may be even more severe as your ovarian function will stop abruptly on the day of surgery, while in natural menopause ovaries fail slowly over a period of time and the loss of the hormones is more gradual and symptoms may be less severe.
Your doctor should have explained this to you and discussed the option for Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) - depending on your symptoms and preferences.
The good news is that your current hormone imbalance will resolve and your pain in the abdomen and back which is caused by the fibroids will go away.
