Does Use Of Metronidazole Cause Any Trouble In Conceiving?
My partner and I have been TTC for the last 3 months. At my visit to my gynecologist last week, she took a culture and said I have a mild case of BV. She prescribed a 7 day treatment of Metronidazole (500mg pill 2X a day). I was reading the warning label which says not to take while pregnant or trying to conceive, and I just want to know, before I start taking it, if it can inhibit my chances of conceiving by taking it. On the other hand, I have also read that BV has the ability to impede conception as well, so I am not sure what to do. Which creates a lesser risk? I will likely ovulate within the next 3-4 days, so if I start taking the prescription, I will not be finished before ovulation.

as you are having BV right now it is advisable to get your infection clear before trying to conceive
Metronidazole is FDA pregnancy category: B drug Although there are no studies showing bad effects during pregnancy, Metronidazole is known to cross the placental barrier and its effects on the human fetal are not known. the potential risks and benefits of the medication should be carefully considered before it is taken during pregnancy but as you are not pregnant yet and your doctor would have think every aspect before prescribing it
however neither BV nor Metronidazole will affect your ovulation and chances of being pregnant in future but again during the course of infection and medicine it is not advisable to conceive and try to conceive once you are clear from infection
i would strongly advise you to consult every aspect and each doubt with your doctor openly
