Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Does Withdrawal From Tamoxifen Lead To Vaginal Bleeding?
Took Tamoxifen for 2 1/2 yrs. stopped in April. Had double mastectomy for LCIS 2 weeks ago. Started with vaginal bleeding 5 days after surgery. Had endometrial bx this past Monday. Bleeding stopped. Now started again. Docs thing withdrawal from Tamoxifen. Thoughts?
As per my clinical experience, the withdrawal of Tamoxifen is usually not associated with heavy menses or vaginal bleeding. Tamoxifen is a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) used in various conditions of ERPR positive breast cancer and other related conditions.
Tamoxifen is known to produce endometrial hyperplasia and that maybe a major cause of concern, when it is used for a period of 2.5 years. However, I would like to revert back to you with your biopsy report whenever available to share with me.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
