Dog Bite, Taken Amoxicillin. Have Headache, Dizziness. Should I Go To ER?
*sigh* I was bitten by a dog on Friday - two puncture wounds. I was unwilling to seek medical care or report the bite. The dog was known to me and fully vaccinated. I home treated with a thorough wash with Dawn, followed by peroxide and antibiotic ointment, and started amoxicillin I'd recently been prescribed for an ear infection but did not end up taking. I iced the wound to control swelling from the trauma. The punctures are healing well - no signs of infection or deeper damage. However, I'm feeling a little weird - headachy and a little dizzy. Should I go to emergency room?
Hi,
You had dog bite on Friday and had 2 punctured wound - but which part of your body?
Any dog bite even though dog is vaccinated you need 1) Inj. Tratanus Toxoid just like for any wound. 2) You must have taken Inj. Rabipur from the day 1 of your bite. The no. inj. are as per the area of Bite. Very near the brain more number injections. Regarding Inj. Rabipur 5 inj. should have been taken spreading over a period of 1 mth. for eq., calculating the day of the bite as '0' the days will be like this, the days are numbered from the day of bite - 0 - 3 - 7 - 14 - 28.
The dog bite wound should NOT be sutured or covered with a bandage. After cleaning it should be kept open. Regarding you, you have taken correct treatment for the wound. But the most important part you missed because of your carelessness. First have INJ. T.T. along with that start Inj. Rabipur counting as your 1st inj. as '0' day.
Tetanus and Rabies are dreadful diseases. Act Fast today itself.
Best wishes
