Dog Bite, Took Injection After One And A Half Days. Chances Of Contacting Rabies?
hi. a stray dog bit me o saturday night 11pm. i cleaned the wound with an antiseptic solution in an hours time. i went and got the rabies injection on monday afternoon 12pm. am i safe? or are there any chances of me contracting rabies. the wound is small but deep, it bled and my hand pained quite a bit on sunday the entire day. plz let me know if i still stand a chance of contracting rabies as i did not take the injection on the same day but 1 and a half day later after the bite. (also about 2-3 years back a pet vaccinated cat had bit me so i had taken 4 injections then)
Hi sanashurve,
I am really concerned that you were bit by a stray dog.
Since you have taken 4 injections of rabies vaccine 2-3 years back, you already have some protection for rabies. You need to take two more doses on days 0 & 3 days.
Although correct thing will be to take vaccine as early as possible but one and a half days is not so late and you already have partial protection due to previous vaccination. Your chances of getting rabies is very less.
Don't worry, take one more dose of rabies vaccine and you will be alright. Take care.
Hello
welcome to health care magic
The first dose of rabies vaccine is given as soon as possible after exposure, with additional doses on days three, seven and fourteen after the first. take tetanus shot.need to be treated with Rabies Immune Globulin and rabies vaccine within 48 hours of being bitten if the dog who bit them has not been vaccinated or if the dog can not be found
no need to worry .proper vaccination will sort out all problem.yes you are safe.Nowadays, only one dose of injection is given for dog bites.please consult the best doctor near you.
